No, an iron bed is not that coffin like device that has all the spikes in it. That’s an iron maiden. An iron bed is a very durable method of creating a bed frame and it has been a popular model of beds for centuries and its popularity continues unabated to this day.

At one time, the iron bed was hand crafted and molded. Many of the beds were true one of a kind models. These beds were very popular in Europe (particularly Ireland), but they also have a tradition of popularity in the United States as well.

This bed to this day maintains a traditional look. Many of the beds are molded and designed so as to look like the classic beds of yesteryear. And that is fine by most as the classic look had an elegance that is difficult to improve upon. For this reason, many of the beds of yesteryear are collected as antiques and are prized by many collectors who search a variety of sources in order to track down ultra rare models. It goes without saying that an antique bed can fetch a high price at an auction.

Of course, if one wants to own such a bed and is not able to shell out the very high dollar figures for a one hundred year old antique, one can purchase a new model. And the new models also have a wonderful look that adds a sense of flare to the bedroom. And it does so at a fraction of the price of an antique. Not a bad deal, wouldn’t you say?
